Baseball. Alvis' Triple the Game-Winner As Baseball Defeats Oral Roberts 3-2

TULSA, Okla. - An RBI-triple by Sam Alvis in the top of the ninth inning led Louisiana Tech (14-14) to a 3-2 victory in the series finale at Oral Roberts (12-14) Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Alvis lone hit in the game came with two outs in the final inning as Justin Gordey scored Tech's third run of the game.

"Our guys kept fighting," said head coach Wade Simoneaux. "It was a good team and a good pitching staff that we beat today, but we are not satisfied with winning one-out-of-three."

The win was head coach Wade Simoneaux's 250th career victory as head coach as the Bulldogs went to 14-14 on the season.

Caleb Dudley (4-0) picked up his fourth win of the season after going 3.2 innings and striking out three. Matt Rush (0-2) was credited with his second loss on the year after the game-winning triple by Alvis. Starter Jamie Gilley pitched 5.1 innings of one run baseball, striking out six in the no-decision.

Alex Williams hit his eighth home run of the season and 30th of his career in the top of the sixth inning to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

Taylor Burch was 1-for-3 at the dish with an RBI-single while Gordey went 2-for-4 from the plate in the victory.

Down 1-0 after ORU scored in the second inning, Gordey recorded the first hit for Tech as the senior center fielder on a bunt single with no outs in the fifth inning. Kyle Arnsberg, who led off the inning with a walk, advanced to third on the play after a throwing error by second baseman Cam Schiller, allowing the catcher to move 90 feet away from home.

Arnsberg scored on an RBI-single by Burch as the right fielder reached base safely in five straight plate appearances, tying the game at 1-1.

Williams hit a solo shot to left field to give Tech a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. ORU scored one run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 2-2 going into the final inning.

Gordey led off the ninth with a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Beau Bayliss. Alvis then hit an RBI-triple to plate Gordey as Tech took a 3-2 lead going into the final frame.

LA Tech travels to Texas to play Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday, April 3 before returning to Ruston to host Grambling State on "Old Timer's Day."
